On November 27, in Ashgabat, a meeting was held between Rashid Meredov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, and Jean Todt, the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Road Safety.

During the conversation, it was noted that Turkmenistan has established itself in recent years as a key platform for discussing current transport issues. Particular attention was paid to the International Conference and Exhibition "International Transport and Transit Corridors: Interconnection and Development - 2024" (ITTC-2024), which became a significant initiative in support of World Sustainable Transport Day.

It was emphasized that the event supports the UN's global campaign "Safe Roads for All", which sets the stage for the upcoming 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, scheduled for February 2025 in Marrakesh.

The interlocutors discussed Turkmenistan's successes in reducing road accidents. They highlighted measures such as the construction of modern highways, the introduction of automated traffic control systems, and strict enforcement of traffic regulations.

The importance of the Group of Friends of Sustainable Transport, initiated by Turkmenistan, was also noted, as it contributes to the development of effective multilateral approaches in the transport sector.

Both sides expressed their readiness to strengthen cooperation in creating a safe, accessible, and sustainable transport infrastructure, which will be a significant contribution to achieving global development goals.
