Turkmen tennis players start Davis Cup journey with two victories
The national team of Turkmenistan won two important victories in the opening matches of the Davis Cup zonal tournament held in Bahrain, Isa Town. In their group “B” Turkmen tennis players defeated the teams of Macau and Mongolia with the same score of 2:1.
The tournament is held within Group V of the Asia and Oceania zone, in which 15 teams, divided into four groups, fight for promotion. Teams from the Philippines, Macau and Mongolia are also in Group B. Other groups of the tournament are as follows: Group A - Guam, Nepal and Brunei; Group C - Northern Mariana Islands, Laos, Maldives and Bhutan; Group D - Bahrain, Yemen, Bangladesh and Tajikistan.
At the end of the tournament, the winners of the groups will go to the playoffs, where the two best teams will have the opportunity to play next year in Group IV of the Asia and Oceania zone.
Turkmenistan's national team in this tournament: Yuri Rogusky, Meilis Orazmukhamedov, Gurbanberdi Gurbanberdiev and Khadzhymyrat Charyev. The captain of the team is Mirali Hasanov. The delegation is headed by the Chairman of the Tennis Federation of Turkmenistan Eziz Dovletov.
