The language of national folklore or about what “Hym-myl" sings?
In Turkmen national creativity there is a surprising genre - the girls’ and women’s song games - «lale», «monjuk atdy» and others. Also among girls the entertainment "hym-myl" is widely enjoyed.
How is it played? Not difficult. Simply girls become one before another, then, springing on feet and raising shoulders, sentencing in a movement rhythm: "hym-myl", "hym-myl" or "hyh-hymmyl", competing among themselves who will not be tired longer. Thus in a step recitatives of certain semantic value were said.
There was some kinds "hym-myl", reached from antiquity. According to stories of grandmothers, in olden time when parents tried to marry the daughter against her will girlfriends, neighbours and relatives of the girl through "hym-myl" made the protest of an occurring situation. Bridesmaids, having divided into two groups, clenched fists, strongly stamping feet, executed "hym-myl" in the form of the address to the mother of the girl.
Such address could be about following maintenances: «If one throws a stone into a deep well it will sink. And if one gives the daughter in marriage to remote countries, she will be gone».
Movement "kick" in this original dance under a refrain was a characteristic symbol of struggle. Emotional execution of such "hym-myl" could affect destiny of the girl.
The folklore song, directly twisted in material culture of the Turkmen people, in labour rituals and wedding, family ceremonies, was some kind of the life form. When girls made felts, weaved carpets, spun a yarn or were engaged in sewing, "hym-myl" was executed already with other intonation - for a small respite and weariness removal. Then words about love, about expectation of a meeting with one’s beloved, about warm secrets and the brightest dreams sounded.
Here such "universal" could be "hym-myl" - solidary movement and a word going from soul. The main feature of this genre consists in collectivism, spirit of support thanks to which it reached the big force of influence.
