Migration Service Delegation from Turkmenistan Participates in Passenger Data Workshop in Vienna

A delegation from the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan participated in the 8th Passenger Data Workshop and the 4th annual meeting of the Eastern Europe Informal Working Group on Passenger Data (EEIWG), which took place last week at the Hofburg Conference Centre in Vienna, Austria. A delegation from the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan participated in the 8th Passenger Data Workshop and the 4th annual meeting of the Eastern Europe Informal Working Group on Passenger Data (EEIWG), which took place last week at the Hofburg Conference Centre in Vienna, Austria. The events were jointly organized by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT).

The events focused on the responsible use of passenger data to combat terrorism and organized crime, emphasizing best practices, innovative technologies and international cooperation. The delegation of Turkmenistan interacted with experts from different countries, sharing national practices and learning from joint experiences and operational models discussed during the sessions.

Participants also explored the future use of passenger data systems across different modes of transport, including maritime, rail and road transport.

The workshops highlighted the importance of API and PNR systems for border security and improving security frameworks in line with resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council and the OSCE Ministerial Council decision.

The EEIWG is part of the global UNOCT Countering Terrorist Travel Programme. Its aim is to support states in enhancing their capacity to detect and counter the movement of terrorists and serious criminals by collecting and using Advance Passenger Information (API) and improving information sharing in line with Security Council resolutions, international standards and relevant privacy laws.

The Group comprises: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Montenegro, Mongolia, North Macedonia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Serbia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Israel.
