The 23rd Ministerial Conference of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program, which was attended by the delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy Babaniyaz Yalakov, was held on November 7-8 in Astana.

The event was attended by President of the Asian Development Bank Masatsugu Asakawa, Director of the CAREC Institute Kabir Jurazoda, Director for the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific of the European Commission Peteris Ustubs, representatives of the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the Islamic Development Bank and other financial organizations, as well as government delegations of South Korea, Japan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan.

The interaction of states in the field of economic and financial stability, infrastructure development, trade, energy, water resources, decarbonization, etc. was analyzed. The conference became a platform for discussing the transition to clean energy, the implementation of innovative climate solutions and the sustainable development of transport corridors.

In particular, the attention of the participants was focused on the CAREC Corridor 2 project, aimed at strengthening the transport sustainability of the region and stimulating its economic growth. Projects that are in the development or implementation stage were presented (for example, a container hub in the port of Aktau in Kazakhstan; a project to modernize the Turkmen and Azerbaijani railways).

Special attention was paid to climate change issues: the session devoted to innovative solutions to combat climate challenges discussed the possibilities of using artificial intelligence to optimize resources and management.

The CAREC program is an initiative of the Asian Development Bank and is implemented in partnership with leading international financial institutions.
