Preparing for the WTO for the Private Sector: An Information Guide for Turkmen Business

The Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan is actively cooperating with the International Trade Center (ITC) to create conditions that facilitate a prepared and competent approach to the country's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
This cooperation is carried out within the framework of the ITC project "Turkmenistan: Trade Sustainability and Integration", aimed at developing international economic cooperation and Turkmenistan's participation in regional and global trade, as well as assisting in the process of accession to the WTO and becoming a full member of the multilateral trading system.
As part of the project, the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, with the support of ITC experts, has prepared information guides for representatives of the private sector in Turkmen, Russian and English. These brochures are designed to help businessmen understand the key aspects of the WTO, as well as how the accession process can affect trade in goods and services, the work of manufacturers and suppliers, and export potential.
The brochure provides brief information about the organization itself, the main WTO agreements, the accession process, and the role of intellectual property in international trade. The electronic version of the brochure can be downloaded from the official website of the Ministry of Finance of Turkmenistan in three languages (https://fineconomic.gov.tm/).
One of the most important areas of the current agenda is a comprehensive study of the principles of the WTO legal system and their impact on national trade policy. This is especially relevant since Turkmenistan is actively working on the process of accession to the WTO.
The accession process began in February 2022, when Turkmenistan received the status of an "acceding country" from the WTO. The Ministry of Finance and Economy, responsible for this process, actively cooperates with international organizations, ensuring a competent approach to such an important stage for our country.
