The book named "Treasury of National Heritage" presents readers with an invaluable collection of artifacts of antiquity and the Middle Ages kept in the State Museum of Turkmenistan.
This is an illustrated excursion into history, right up to the Stone Age. The route of the journey begins from the time of the Paleolithic age and lies through the civilization of Altyn-depe, which flourished at the end of the III-beginning of II millennium BC.
The pages of the publication contain artistic reconstructions of the life activity of the ancient human settlements on the territory of Turkmenistan, rock paintings found in the Beyzeg valley, images of finds characterizing the Jeytun culture, ceramics from Kara-depe, Anau, Goksur oasis, unique gold items from the temple complex of Altyn-depe , Bronze seals, signs of ancient Eastern writing on terracotta statuettes from this site ...
Further, the origin and existence of the Margush Republic in the Central Karakum, in the basin of the ancient delta of the Murgab River, is described. The narrative is accompanied by photographs of amazing finds made by archaeologists in Gonur Depe. This priceless collection contains the highest craftsmanship of jewelry and other items of gold, silver, bronze, turquoise, ivory, stone, ceramic vessels and religious objects. The style and technique of their performance testify to the developed civilization culture of the II millennium BC, the level of crafts and art of the ancient Margushians.
The book continues the history of the Parthian Kingdom, illustrated with exhibits from the museum collection. These are coins found in the Old Nisa, famous ivory rhytons with plot friezes, the legendary marble statue of Rodoguna, fragments of sculptures, vessels and wall paintings, decorative details of architecture, numerous figures from silver. All of them date back to the 2nd century BC. Certainly, one of the best examples of metal sculpture from the treasury of Parthia is the cast figure of Athena Pollada. Images of Greek mythology deeply penetrated the life and art of Parthian society, but many works of art had characteristic "Parthian" features, as can be seen from the helmet of the goddess Athena.
Section "Turkmenistan in the Middle Ages" presents artifacts from the Merv Oasis, where the remains of a Buddhist temple, as well as a Christian temple - Kharaba-keshk were found among the buildings, castles and palaces. Merv's highlights are Big and Small Gyzgala with corrugated walls.
The museum collection also have finds from the Zoroastrian fire temple Mele-Heiran in the Serahs etrap, Dehistan, the city of Dandanakan, which was included in history as a major battle between the Seljuk army and the Gaznevid army, which marked the beginning of large-scale Seljuk conquests in Asia. A special place among the medieval buildings is the mausoleum of Sultan Sanjar.
