The Internet radio station OFF Radio in Krakow, Poland, has replaced the live presenters with characters created using artificial intelligence.

This initiative of the radio station was the first experiment in Poland in which journalists were replaced by virtual characters.

Since October 22, the Off Radio Krakow channel has been hosted by characters created by artificial intelligence: 20-year-old Amy (short for Emilia), 22-year-old Kuba (Jakub) and 23-year-old Alex. Each of them has its own story and its own character. Amy is studying journalism, Kuba is studying sound engineering, and Alex is a certified psychologist. They will run programs that were previously created by a team of about a dozen employees.

The radio station stated that the three characters are aimed at a younger audience, talking about cultural, artistic and social issues.

The radio station's website reports that the new version of the OFF Radio Krakow channel is a research and media experiment that should answer the question of what impact the development of artificial intelligence can have on culture, media, journalism and society.

"Is artificial intelligence more of an opportunity or a threat to the media, radio and journalism? We will look for answers to this question," said Marcin Pulit, the head of the radio station.
