First Virtual Sports Festival to gather youngsters around the world

Youngsters around the world are invited to participate in the first World Virtual Youth Festival “United Through Sports 2020”. The festival is under the patronage of the IOC (International Olympic Committee), the IPC (International Paralympic Committee), the Global Association of International Sports Federations and Special Olympics.
The festival will bring together Olympic and non-Olympic sport affiliated entities to showcase, demonstrate and promote healthy lifestyle, inclusion and peace-promotion.
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected each and every one, including the world of sport. “Now, more than ever, we must stand in solidarity and unity under the Olympic and Paralympic movements towards promoting and fostering the Olympic values. Now is the time to transform crisis into nurturing opportunity to promote health,” the organizers say.
In 2017, the United Through Sports initiative was born to create and contribute towards a better world, with and for our youth.
The finals will be hosted in Thailand and held as a hybrid event around the world in celebration of the United Nations’ World Children’s day, on November 20-22.
The festival will include webinars, panel discussions and workshops. Topics of focus will include: Peace through sport, Athletes’ roles and responsibilities, Safeguarding and child protection among others.
IOC President Dr. Thomas Bach said: “The current coronavirus crisis has proven that sport and an active lifestyle can save lives. With its own campaigns, the IOC has been working since the beginning of the crisis to make it even more evident how important sport is for physical and mental health, in particular in times of lockdown, social distancing and uncertainty.”
To enter the festival, youngsters will need to film themselves on camera performing an exercise routine of their choice and explaining their motivation to participate in this challenge. Finalized video should be sent to the appropriate federation.
For example, the final application deadline for sambists is October 25, 2020, International Sambo Federation.
