The Hermitage will hold an exhibition on Iranian and Central Asian Culture in Tehran


The Hermitage has offered to hold an exhibition at the National Museum of Iran dedicated to the culture of Iran and Central Asia, reports the IRNA News Agency.
Pavel Lurie, Head of the Central Asia, Caucasus and Crimea sector of the Oriental Department of the State Hermitage Museum, at a meeting with the Director General of the National Museum of Iran, Jebrael Nokandeh, noted the long-term interaction between the two museums and offered to repeat a joint project organized more than forty years ago – both museums held two mutual exhibitions in the 1970s.
Mr.Lurie, who is visiting Iran on behalf of the head of the State Hermitage Museum, said that the Hermitage Museum is ready to hold a similar exhibition again in Iran and expressed hope that the Museum of Iran will also hold its exhibition in St. Petersburg.
At this meeting, the parties signed agreements on cooperation and holding the exhibitions.
The Oriental Department is one of the “youngest” in the Hermitage, this year, on November 1, it will be 100 years old. It consists of four sectors: the sector of the Ancient East; the sector of the Middle East and Byzantium; the sector of Central Asia, the Caucasus and the Crimea; and the sector of the Far East.
The Department’s funds include more than 150,000 exhibits.
