Daewoo E&C Wins Bid to Build Fertilizer Plant in Turkmenabat
Daewoo Engineering & Construction (Daewoo E&C) has been selected by the state-owned “Turkmenhimiya” Concern as the preferred bidder for a major project to build a mineral fertilizer plant, the company announced on October 21. The project marks an important milestone in the ongoing cooperation between South Korea and Turkmenistan, according to a report by BusinessKorea.
The mineral fertilizer plant in Turkmenabat, Turkmenistan’s second-largest city, will have an annual production capacity of 350,000 tons of phosphate fertilizers and 100,000 tons of ammonium sulfate. These fertilizers are critical to increasing agricultural productivity, a key focus of Turkmenistan’s economic strategy. The construction period will be announced after the main contract is signed.
The selection of Daewoo E&C as the winner of the tender is the culmination of a series of high-level negotiations and preliminary agreements, including during South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol's official visit to Turkmenistan in June. In September, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Park Sang-woo also visited Turkmenistan, requesting local support for the project.
