“Margian Goddess” – a collection created by a woman

Designer Sheker Akiniyazova is known as a supporter of environmentally friendly handmade products and stylish clothing. This summer, Ms.Sheker created an extraordinary collection of attires that carry the historical spirit and echoes of the ancient civilization of Margiana (Margush).
Once upon a time, terracotta statuettes of ancient beauties in high headdresses were found at the excavations of Margiana. Preserved artifacts, after several millennia, brought to our days the image of an ancient woman – either a goddess, or a priestess, or maybe a princess. Inspired by historical finds, the Turkmen designer has developed seven unique neo-folklore apparels.
“By education I am an architect, says Sheker Akiniyazova. – And it helps me in my work as a designer. Based on the theme of Margush, I created a kind of fantasy on the theme: “The Margian Goddess went with her female friends for a walk”. Every detail – from jewelry and accessories to embroidery and hats – was worked out by me to a dot, all national dresses in a modern interpretation are made and sewn by hand.”
Using only natural fabrics produced in Turkmenistan, the designer managed to reflect in her collection not only the cultural and historical heritage, but also to focus on environmental friendliness. Costumes made of Turkmen velvet, clothes made of keteni and patterns of ancient embroidery presented by Oriental girls converted the collection into a real thematic art show.
The “Margian Goddess” collection worthily represented Turkmenistan at the International Fashion Week “Aspara Fashion Week”. This project by Kazakh designer Aidarkhan Kuliyev is popular among designers in Central Asia. This year, the fashion show was held online, but, nevertheless, the event attracted the attention of 60 designers from 32 countries.
Turkmenistan represented by Sheker Akiniyazova took part in “Aspara Fashion Week” for the first time. It should be said that the purposeful designer helps young talents express themselves. Two young designers from Turkmenistan – Chinar Atamuradova and Arslan Cherryaev – made their debut at “Aspara Fashion Week” autumn-winter 2020 under the auspices of Ms.Sheker.
“We become accustomed to the beauty of our Turkmen apparels, but they always create a real furor among the foreign audience, – says Akiniyazova Sheker. – I would like to nominate young designers from Turkmenistan, because thanks to youth, we will soon have an opportunity to hold a large fashion shows with the participation of foreign colleagues.”
Ms.Sheker says that many of her ideas and achievements are realized thanks to teamwork. Make-up stylists, choreographers, models and video operators – there is a large team of professionals behind the designer’s back, and her success on the international fashion platform partly belongs to each of them.
