The UN Geneva Office highly appreciated Turkmenistan's efforts to eradicate statelessness

The delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the 75th session of the Executive Committee of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva. The delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the 75th session of the Executive Committee of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva. At the opening of the session on October 14, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, in his speech, highly appreciated the efforts of the leadership of Turkmenistan to eradicate statelessness.

The Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN in Geneva Vepa Khadzhiev spoke at the first panel session, noting that thanks to the initiatives of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, the Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the campaign to completely eradicate statelessness was completed in the country on September 24, 2024. This became possible thanks to political will and cooperation with the UN.

Chairman of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan Amanmuhammet Sazakov, who spoke during the high-level segment, noted that more than 32 thousand people were accepted into Turkmen citizenship, and more than 5 thousand received a residence permit.

These achievements demonstrate Turkmenistan's commitment to protecting human rights and fulfilling its international obligations.
