Uzbekistan has joined the international Space Treaty
Uzbekistan has joined the international Treaty on the Principles of the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies.
The law on ratification of this Treaty was signed by the President of the Republic Shavkat Mirziyoyev on October 10, the website reports gazeta.uz .
The document was adopted by a resolution of the UN General Assembly on December 19, 1966 and signed in London, Moscow and Washington on January 27, 1967. To date, 114 countries have joined it.
The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis adopted the law on July 2, and the Senate approved the document on August 15.
Director General of the Uzbekcosmos Agency Shukhrat Kadirov noted that the ratification of the agreement will allow Uzbekistan to participate in international space projects and research, as well as share resources and knowledge with other countries.
The agreement will also contribute to the development of the space legal system of Uzbekistan.
The Outer Space Treaty
The Outer Space Treaty states that the exploration and use of outer space are carried out for the benefit and in the interests of all countries, regardless of their degree of economic or scientific development, and are the property of all mankind. Space and celestial bodies are not subject to national appropriation either by proclaiming sovereignty over them, or by use or occupation, or by any other means.
The States parties to the treaty undertake to carry out activities in the exploration and use of outer space in accordance with international law, including the UN Charter, in the interests of maintaining international peace and security and developing international cooperation and mutual understanding.
The participating countries undertake not to put into orbit around the Earth any objects with nuclear weapons or any other types of weapons of mass destruction, not to install such weapons on celestial bodies and not to stir such weapons in outer space in any other way.
The States parties to the treaty consider astronauts as messengers of mankind into space and provide them with all possible assistance in the event of an accident, disaster or forced landing on the territory of another State party to the treaty or on the high seas. When carrying out activities in space, cosmonauts of one State party to the treaty provide possible assistance to cosmonauts of other States parties.
