Baku has refused to hold the European championships in gymnastics because of the pandemic
The capital of Azerbaijan will not host the European championships in sports gymnastics among men and women who should pass in December, this year, informs Sputnik Azerbaijan referring to the site of the European organisation of gymnastics. The federation of gymnastics of Azerbaijan notified that it cannot hold the superiority in sports gymnastics in connection with the coronavirus pandemic. After that online session of executive committee of the organisation took place, and the decision to transfer the competition from Baku to the Turkish city of Mersin was accepted. Thus, terms of tournaments remain invariable. The European championship in sports gymnastics among men had to pass in Baku from December 9 to December 13 and female superiority - on December, 17-20. Both tournaments will not have the status of the Olympic qualification, and also will keep earlier established format. Besides, it is noted that Azerbaijan till the end of this year because of the coronavirus pandemic will not host any large sports competition. In 2020 in Azerbaijan had to host the European championships in karate, sumo, World championship in sports aerobics, Grand prix of Azerbaijan "Formula -1", European championship matches in football. The pandemic has made the negative changes to sports life not only in Azerbaijan, but also many countries of the world, including Turkmenistan. Foreign mass-media have informed earlier that the World championship in sambo 2020 which was planned to host by Ashkhabad, is transferred to the Serbian city of Novi Sad where it will pass from November 5 to November 8 and will be combined with the youth superiority of the world planned earlier also in Serbia in sambo. Turkmenistan, because of adverse epidemiological situation in the region and the world, introduced a complex of restrictive measures with a purpose not to spread in the territory of the country the novel type of coronavirus. And organization of, in the present state of affairs, large scale international sports competitions, bears in itself certain risks.
