The USAID management project, in collaboration with the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, organized a study tour to Kazakhstan for senior officials from key ministries and financial control agencies in Turkmenistan. This initiative aims to strengthen competencies in combating money laundering, financing of terrorism, preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and combating corruption.

Participants from the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of National Security, and the Financial Monitoring service, as well as the Prosecutor General’s Office of Turkmenistan, interacted with their counterparts from Kazakhstan to study effective financial compliance strategies. The delegation learned about national risk assessment methods and the regulatory framework in Kazakhstan, as well as gaining insights into sectoral practices and inter-agency cooperation.

Key areas of focus included financial monitoring, parallel financial investigations, beneficial ownership identification and regulation of virtual assets through the Astana International Financial Centre. The delegation also met with the Kazakhstan’s General Prosecutor's Office and the Anti-Corruption Agency to examine preventive mechanisms for anti-corruption and asset recovery.

This visit marked a significant step in strengthening the anti-corruption and financial monitoring frameworks of Turkmenistan, reaffirming the commitment of USAID and the OSCE Center to promoting good governance and sustainable development in the region.

The USAID project "Governance Activity in Turkmenistan" (GAT), in partnership with the Government of Turkmenistan, supports the nation's governance, the legislative process, and the socio-economic development of the country. By promoting transparent, inclusive governance and evidence-based legislation, GAT paves the way for sustainable economic and social development.
