The Minister of Foreign Affairs Foreign of Uzbekistan announced the country's intention to lead the Non-Aligned Movement in 2027-2029.

Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov announced a historic milestone for the country: Uzbekistan plans to host the 20th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement and lead the Movement from 2027 to 2029. The statement was made following a ministerial meeting of the organization held on the sidelines of the UN Future Summit, which was held on 22-23 September in New York, as reported by Podrobno.uz.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that the main focus will be on key priorities such as energy security, sustainable development, and strengthening global trade systems.

“We aim to promote peace, address climate change issues and support the new generation through education. Together we can meet the challenges of our time and strengthen the voice of the Global South,” noted Bakhtiyor Saidov.

He also spoke unwavering support of Uganda as the newly appointed chairmanship for 2024-2026 and expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for its successful previous chairmanship.

The Non-Aligned Movement is one of the largest international structures uniting 120 member States, which proclaimed non-participation in military-political blocs and organizations as the foundation of their foreign policy course, as well as the development of cooperation based on the principles and goals of the United Nations Charter.
