Russian cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub have set a new record for the longest stay on the International Space Station (ISS) during a single flight. This was announced by the State Corporation for Space Activities Roscosmos.

"At 16:06:51 Moscow time, they (Kononenko and Chub) will exceed the achievement of Sergei Prokopiev, Dmitry Petelin and Francisco Rubio, who made a flight lasting 370 days, 21 hours, 22 minutes, 16 seconds," Roscosmos said in a statement.

Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub went to the ISS on September 15, 2023 on the Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft. They will return to Earth on the Soyuz MS-25 spacecraft on September 23.

On June 5, Oleg Kononenko became the first in history to overcome the milestone of 1000 days in terms of the total duration of space flights. He surpassed the achievement of cosmonaut Gennady Padalka, who scored a total of 878 days, 11 hours, 29 minutes, 48 seconds during five space flights.

The longest space flight was performed by Russian Valery Polyakov, who spent 437 days, 17 hours, 58 minutes, 17 seconds on the Mir orbital complex from January 1994 to March 1995.
