International Conference in Elista: Magtymguly's 300th Anniversary Unites Kalmyks and Turkmens


On September 20, Elista, the capital of the Republic of Kalmykia, Russian Federation, hosted an international scientific and practical conference "Symbols of Eternity: a Bridge of Friendship and Brotherhood between Kalmyks and Turkmens" dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the great poet Magtymguly Fragi. The conference was held as part of the regional forum "Peoples Together Through the Centuries".
The event focused on issues of historical interaction between the Turkmen and Kalmyk peoples, as well as prospects for the development of humanitarian and trade and economic ties between Turkmenistan and Kalmykia.
In his welcoming speech, Consul of Turkmenistan Gadam Ilamanov emphasized the importance of Magtymgyly Fragi's work for the formation and development of both Turkmen and all Turkic literature. He also called for an in-depth study of the history of relations between Kalmyks and Turkmens to eliminate existing gaps.

The conference brought together experts from various fields: scientists, political scientists, representatives of universities and analytical centers not only from Russia, but also from the CIS countries. They presented reports on the partnership between Kalmykia and Turkmenistan, as well as the work of Magtymguly Fragi. The event was attended by representatives of the government of Kalmykia, the chairman and deputies of the People's Khural (Parliament) of the Republic. Students from Turkmenistan studying at the Kalmyk State University named after B.B. Gorodovikov were also invited.
This forum and conference became an important step in strengthening friendly relations between the peoples of the two republics, emphasizing the importance of cultural exchange and shared heritage.

An exhibition was organized for the guests of the forum, where works of Turkmen fine and jewelry art, elements of national clothing and examples of decorative and applied art were presented, which added cultural color to the atmosphere of the conference and emphasized the importance of friendship between peoples.
