The International Turkic Academy, the center of which is located in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, announced the agreement on a common Turkic alphabet consisting of 34 letters. This decision was made at the third meeting of the Commission for the Creation of a Common Turkic Alphabet, which was held in Baku on September 9-11, Trthaber.com reports.

Representatives of the member countries of the Organization of Turkic States took part in the meeting. The main goal of the meeting was to complete work on the draft of a common alphabet based on the Latin alphabet, which was first proposed by scientists back in 1991.

“The Commission came to an agreement on the proposed alphabet, which includes 34 letters. Each of them represents different sounds characteristic of the Turkic languages,” the statement said.

Member states of the Organization of Turkic States: Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Uzbekistan. Observers: Hungary, Turkmenistan, Northern Cyprus.
