Alp Arslan Begenjov, 18, became the first athlete from Turkmenistan to win a gold medal at the World Youth Wrestling Championships U-20. The competition was held in Pontevedra, Spain.

Begenjov competed in the 79 kg weight category, which included 27 athletes. He won all of his fights, without losing a single point to his opponents, finishing the tournament with a total score of 46:0. In the final, he defeated American wrestler Zachary Ryder with a score of 5:0.

Athletes from Iran and Brazil won bronze medals in this weight category. In honor of Begenjov’s victory, the flag of Turkmenistan was raised in the arena and the national anthem was performed.
