Satellite Internet from the world's largest e-commerce platform, Amazon, may appear in Kazakhstan.

The Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of the Republic Zhaslan Madiyev spoke about the upcoming agreement with the Amazon Kuiper satellite Internet service, which is an analogue of Elon Musk’s Starlink, at the first Asia-Pacific Conference on Digital Inclusion and Transformation in Central Asia in Astana. The conference is organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

“Amazon Kuiper is a satellite solution for providing the Internet. Analogous to Starlink, OneWeb. I think that by developing competition in this direction, we can get better services for citizens at an affordable price,” the minister commented.

Amazon aims to provide broadband internet access through more than 3,000 satellites. Last year, the company successfully launched the first two prototype space satellites to deploy Project Kuiper satellite internet services.

The company estimates that when operating at full capacity, the facility near Seattle will be able to produce about five satellites per day. This means that the corporation will be able to fulfill the order of the US Federal Communications Commission to deploy more than 1.6 thousand Project Kuiper devices in orbit by July 2026.
