Luis Suarez scores double and supplies one assist on his debut for Atlético
The Uruguay striker Luis Suarez started on the bench and came on midway through the second half to make his debut for Atlético Madrid when he replaced forward Diego Costa against Granada.
In the 72nd minute, Suarez instantly made his mark by releasing Marcos Llorente with an exquisite first touch, just 103 seconds after entering the match.
In the 85th minute, the Uruguayan star of the “mattresses” scored his first goal. In added time, Suarez found the opponent’s goal for the second time to perfectly celebrate his debut to form the final 6: 1 in favor of the players from the Spanish capital.
Luis Suarez joined Atlético after enjoying a successful six-year spell at Barcelona. For the Catalan club, he scored 198 goals and provided 97 assists in 283 games.
In six seasons with Barcelona, Luis won 13 trophies, including 4 Leagues, 4 Spanish Cups, a Champions League in 2015, a Club World Cup, a European Super Cup and 2 Spanish Super Cups. On Wednesday, he arrived at the base to say goodbye to the Barcelona players and staff. Suarez was crying as he left the sports complex.
“Leave me a place here – I want to make history. I came to this club to contribute. I came here for trophies. All the Uruguayans performed very well at Atletico. I hope I won’t be an exception,” Suarez has commented on the move to the Madrid club.
