Turkmenistan presents Report at the 97th Session of the Committee on the Rights of the Child
The delegation of Turkmenistan, led by the Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, presented its report at the 97th session of the Committee on the Rights of the Child. The delegation includes representatives from the Ministries of Internal Affairs, Education, Health and Medical Industry, the General Prosecutor's Office, and the Institute of State, Law, and Democracy of Turkmenistan.

In their presentation the delegation highlighted significant achievements in the area of children's rights, including the adoption of new laws and the amendment of existing regulations. Key legislative changes include the new version of the Law "On Education," the adoption of the Law "On Social Services," and amendments to the Criminal Code and other key laws.
Between 2015 and 2024, Turkmenistan acceded to a number of international treaties, including ILO Convention No. 144, the Marrakesh Treaty, the Convention against Discrimination in Education, and other important agreements. Currently, the National Program for Socio-Economic Development 2022–2052 and the Presidential Program 2022–2028 are actively being implemented, reflecting the provisions of these international documents, including those related to children's rights.
In the healthcare sector Turkmenistan is actively implementing the National Health Program, including initiatives aimed at improving nutrition, early childhood development, and disease prevention. Significant steps include increasing immunization coverage to 95.3% and establishing a Charitable Fund, which has provided medical assistance to 423 children over the past three years.
In the education sector, new strategies and concepts are being introduced to modernize teaching methods, including the Concept for Improving Teaching Methods until 2028 and the Program for Improving Preschool Education. In 2023, a Roadmap for Cooperation with UNESCO was signed, promoting the digital transformation of the education system.
Turkmenistan has also enhanced its social protection and justice systems for children. New laws have been adopted, and specialized structures have been established to protect the rights of children and women. Programs for social work and improving access to quality social services have been implemented.
