TIF 2024: Turkmenistan and the UN towards an Integrated Financing Structure


As part of the upcoming Turkmenistan Investment Forum (TIF 2024), a significant parallel event is scheduled to take place, featuring a session of the Joint Expert Group of the UN and the Government of Turkmenistan. The focus of the meeting will be the development of an Integrated National Financing Structure (INFS) to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Turkmenistan. This event will bring together representatives from key government agencies, international organizations, and experts to discuss pathways and strategies for effectively achieving the SDGs in the country.
Enhancing Statistical Capacity for SDG Implementation in Turkmenistan
The event will include discussions on enhancing Turkmenistan’s statistical capacity for SDG implementation. This session will be moderated by Jalpa Ratna, UNICEF Representative. The Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Statistics of Turkmenistan will present current achievements and plans for the development of national statistics, highlighting its importance for monitoring progress towards the SDGs.
Costing Results for Achieving the SDGs
A key topic will be the discussion of costing results for achieving the SDGs at the global level and in Central Asian countries. Nure Barnat, Head of the Methodological Department, and Petra Kynchova, Statistician at UNCTAD, will share their expertise and experience online during this session.
Financing and Investment in Food Security
Another critical topic will be financing and attracting investment for food security. Akos Sebeni, Senior Technical Advisor at the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, will also participate online, presenting successful examples and recommendations for attracting investment into the agricultural sector.
UNDP Support in Developing SDG Financing Mechanisms
Irina Gukassova, UNDP Project Manager, will discuss the support provided by UNDP in developing comprehensive national mechanisms for SDG financing in Turkmenistan. Her presentation will emphasize the need to integrate international practices with national specifics to achieve sustainable development.
Joint Country SDG Analysis
The concluding session will focus on discussing the Joint Country SDG Analysis, with an emphasis on target indicators and progress made by Turkmenistan in fulfilling its national commitments. Specialists from the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, together with Vladimir Valetka, Economist at the UN Resident Coordinator's Office, will present key findings and outline next steps.
