Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held video talks on Friday, July 16, with the UN Under-Secretary-General, Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Inger Andersen.

The interlocutors discussed a number of key issues related to Turkmenistan's initiatives in the field of environmental protection, in particular, the creation of the UN Regional Center for Climate Change Technologies for Central Asian countries with headquarters in Ashgabat, according to a press release from the Turkmen Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

An exchange of views took place on the practical implementation of the Global Methane Commitment, which Turkmenistan joined during the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-28). It was noted that work has begun within the framework of a joint project with the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) with the aim of developing a mechanism for regularly providing updated data on emissions detected using the MARS system.
