As part of the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games 2024, which started in Paris, Intel will be the first in the world to implement OTT broadcasting in 8K resolution.

To provide high-quality 8K broadcasts, Intel will partner with the Olympic Broadcasting Service and other companies.

By applying new innovative AI capabilities with the help of its latest hardware and software, the American tech giant will achieve compression from the original 48 Gbps to 40-60 Mbps.

The data servers are based on the fourth-generation Xeon Scalable CPUs, as well as the newer fifth-generation Xeon Scalable (Emerald Rapids), which are equipped with an advanced Intel AMX AI accelerator.

Steps to achieve 8K broadcasts include:

Cameras at some Olympic venues are broadcasting live in 8K at 60 frames per second in high definition (HDR) with a bit rate of 48 Gbps combined with 32 audiochannels.

Powered by the latest 5th Gen Intel Xeon processors, the custom-designed "broadcast-in-a-box" encoder processes raw content in less than 400 milliseconds and distributes it across the Internet within seconds.

Around the world, PCs based on Intel Core i9 processors with Intel Arc GPUs and laptops based on Intel Core Ultra 9 processors decode Olympic Broadcast Service content in real time and then display the video feed on an 8K TV.
