Including mass hobby of local teenagers - chess. The results are obvious and include not only the presence of a large number of boys and girls in the chess sections, but also the high results of Turkmen children in international tournaments. Of the last successful performances, mention can be made of gold, silver and bronze medals at the World Cadet Championships (Batumi, 2016), the World Cup among schoolchildren (Sochi, 2016), the Asian Junior Championships (Tehran, 2016), the international rating tournament (Dubai, 2017), International grandmaster "Open" tournament (Delhi, 2016) and many others. High results of young Turkmen citizens are not surprising, considering that their great compatriot Abu Bakr al-Suli was an outstanding chess player of the Middle Ages. His name goes back to the name of the province of Sul - a historical region to the southeast of the Caspian - Gurgen (in the ancient documents of Hyrkinia, Arab - Jurjan). Despite the fact that Abu Bakr al-Suli was from Turkmens, living in Baghdad, he wore a very long name, formed on the basis of the tradition of a very complex Arabic naming system, which reflected the names of the father and grandfather, honorary title, social affiliation, etc. ., including the place of birth. And his grandfather bore the name Sulkhan (prince of the province of Sul). The current descendants of the great ancestor, who, according to the chronicles, had not lost a single party for 40 years, meeting with the strongest chess players of their time, are enjoying the skills of this wise game from an early age. We truly believe that one of them will glorify our Motherland, as much as our famous compatriot did.
