Beijing will discuss the experience of cities in the promotion of technologies on the background of the pandemic

The UNESCO Creative Cities Beijing Summit will be held online on September 17-18 and will bring together the parties concerned, politicians, representatives of UN agencies, experts, and entrepreneurs. Its motto is “Creativity empowers cities, technology creates the future”.
Participants will discuss new models of urban development based on culture, creativity and new technologies in the context of COVID-19. In the face of the pandemic, cities around the world have adapted and demonstrated creativity to develop effective solutions. Besides rendering basic public services to citizens, the growing use of new technologies has prompted cities to explore how creativity and innovation can improve urban management and build sustainable cities of the future.
The summit will be supported by potential Beijing’s potential in science and technology to promote the role of culture in ensuring sustainable urban development.
The two-day event will feature the UNESCO e-publication entitled “UNESCO Creative Cities’ Response to COVID-19”, which demonstrates best urban practices of creative cities in response to the crisis.
The UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) was established in 2004 to promote collaboration between cities for sustainable urban development. Currently, this network includes 246 cities. In 2021, it’s planned the inclusion of Ashgabat (“Design” category) and Turkmenabat (“Craft and folk art”) in it.
