The American company, developer and manufacturer of satellites AST SpaceMobile will provide stable connection of smartphones to communication satellites even indoors.
To do this, the company signed an agreement with telecom operators AT&T and Verizon to share the 850 MHz frequency.
Unlike higher frequencies, low frequency frequencies travel longer distances and penetrate deeper into buildings and through foliage. This ensures that signals reach the user even in remote areas with limited terrestrial infrastructure, i.e. cell towers”.
Five communications satellites from AST SpaceMobile will be launched into orbit by September of this year.
AST SpaceMobile, a competitor to Starlink, has already demonstrated the benefits of its technology by allowing indoor satellite reception at 21 Mbps.
