Global smartphone shipments grew by 6% year-on-year to 296.9 million units.

Despite a revenue decline of more than 10% year-on-year, Apple remained the largest smartphone vendor by value. In physical terms (meaning quantity), Samsung took the lead, occupying 20% of the smartphone market.
Among the top five leaders in the global smartphone market, the Chinese company Xiaomi grew its revenue the fastest.
Geographically, smartphone market growth in the first quarter was concentrated in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean and Latin America.
