Turkmen producers expand geography of cooperation with Russia
Probably, Smolensk consumers will get soon dried melon and delicious fruit gifts of Turkmen land at their tables and, in turn, the food assortment of Turkmen supermarkets will be replenished with potatoes, vegetable oil, sugar and other products produced in this region of the Russian Federation.
The potential of export-import transactions, cooperation in the agricultural sector and many other issues of the building up bilateral ties were discussed during the first working visit of the Turkmen business delegation to Smolensk. The visit was organized by the Export Support Center and the Union of Smolensk Producers.
The delegation, led by the head of export sales of “TurkmenExport” state-run company Annamurad Muradov, included representatives of trading companies.
Having familiarized with the export opportunities of the Smolensk region during the presentation and a meeting with representatives of trade networks, Turkmen exporters outlined the promising areas of import from Smolensk region, including such food items as vegetable oil, sugar, flour of hard varieties, spare parts for agricultural machinery and production equipment. The pure-strain stock-breeding is another potential area of interaction.
Russian entrepreneurs voiced their priorities for import. Smolensk market is ready to sell Turkmen fruits, dried fruits, juices and other canned production. "The Smolensk region is primarily interested in quality Turkmen fruit, the content of fructose in which exceeds 20 percent," explained Maxim Astapenkov, general director of the Export Support Center.
However, it is possible that the parties will find other points of partnership. Turkmen guests will continue to acquaint with the economic base of the Smolensk region during the visits to the enterprises of JSC Smolenskoye, Texprom. The meetings are planned with company managers of Vyazemsky tannery, Polymer D, Bancon Ltd., Sitall, Smolensk Collection, Smolensky Cannery, Promkonservy, Bio Juice, Smolensky Bread-Baking Complex.
The negotiating part of the program will result in preparation of contracts on mutual commodity supplies.
Turkmenistan maintains economic relations with more than 50 regions of the Russian Federation. The most dynamic commodity turnover is developing with Moscow, St. Petersburg, Astrakhan, Belgorod, Volgograd, Nizhny Novgorod, Sverdlovsk and Chelyabinsk regions, as well as the Republic of Tatarstan. In January-July 2017, the Turkmen-Russian trade turnover exceeded US $ 233 million.
