The report of the United Nations Children's Fund on the state of the world's children in 2017, which was presented today at the UN Office in Turkmenistan, focuses on digital technologies that have deeply penetrated the life of the rising generation. Hence, the title of the Report: “Children in a Digital World”. In contrast with adults, who know and have seen the life “before” the Internet, children can’t imagine the way of living without it. The World Wide Web has entangled kids with its network from an early age: from photos posted on the Internet to medical records, stored there on the powerful servers, many kids have a digital archive before they start taking their first steps or say their first word.Aidjahan ATABALLYEVA
“One of three internet users worldwide is a child, and the most connected to the network from all age groups today are the young people,” the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, Elena Panova, noted in her report.
Elena Panova placed special emphasis on the words (in fact - an aphorism) of the representative from the Democratic Republic of the Congo:
- The Internet has made us closer to those who are far away and distanced from those who are nearby.
These words most accurately reflect the nature of the World Wide Web.
Its negative impact should be reduced and the opportunities arising from digital technology should be expanded.
By providing maximum access to the benefits of the Internet, and minimizing risks, we will support the development of a new generation of “digital” citizens.
