On Thursday, April 18, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a meeting with the heads of UN agencies in Turkmenistan and regional structures of this Organization.

National priorities for the new cycle of the United Nations Framework Program for Cooperation in the Field of Sustainable Development for the period 2026-2030 and global prospects for accelerating the achievement of the SDGs were put on the agenda of the meeting via videoconference.

During the meeting, specific proposals were announced and priority vectors of partnership were outlined.

Rashid Meredov stressed that cooperation with the UN and its departments is a priority vector of Turkmenistan's foreign policy and expressed the Government's desire to deepen cooperation with the Organization in strengthening peace and security, achieving the SDGs, developing sustainable transport, combating climate change and other areas. The role of the resolutions adopted by the UN General Assembly, initiated by our country, was emphasized, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

During the negotiations, an exchange of views took place on the prospects of Turkmenistan's cooperation with specialized UN structures in such areas as sustainable development, transport, climate change and environmental protection, the humanitarian dimension, including respect for human rights, preservation of cultural heritage, and the introduction of best practices in the education and health system.

The heads of the UN units informed about the ongoing joint work with the Government of Turkmenistan and shared their ideas and proposals in this direction.

The meeting also discussed the schedule of upcoming meetings and joint planned events.
