Russia aims to sign the Convention on the Caspian sea in Astana


Russia looks forward to the successful conclusion of the August summit of the Caspian five by signing the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian sea. This statement was made in Baku by Grigory Karasin, Russian deputy foreign minister, RIA Novosti reported. According to high-ranking official from Russian foreign ministry, the future Convention for will determine many decades the activities of the Caspian countries in the ecology and economic fields. Currently, the parties are working intensively at the expert level. Karasin expressed confidence that the Caspian nations will be able to constructively approach the solution of complex issues and conclude a convention. In late February, Moscow hosted 50th meeting of the Special Working Group on the development of the convention, during which representatives of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Russia verified the draft texts in Russian, Farsi and English.
