Central Asian experience on alternative energy considered at OSCE workshop
Best practices in renewable energy and energy efficiency in Central Asia was the theme of a two-day expert seminar organized in Vienna by the Office of the Coordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities and supported by the Joint Research Centre of the European Union.
The interactive forum has become a discussion platform with the participation of more than 40 experts from Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as from the European Union, the Austrian Institute for Technology, the International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis, the Energy Community and Wienenergie, major Austrian energy provider.
Participants of the meeting exchanged experience for the safe integration of renewable energy sources into the power grids and modeling of solar and wind maps. They also shared information on activities in the field of energy efficiency in centralized heat supply and use of renewable energy sources as the driving force of the green economy.
The forum wrapped up with a visit to a waste processing plant located in the heart of Vienna. The treatment facilities of the complex occupy more than half of its territory. Annually 250 thousand tons of household waste are destroyed there. The thermal energy released from the burning of garbage heats up over 60,000 apartments.
