Thailand plans to create an analogue of the Schengen zone in the region with other countries in Southeast Asia.
This idea was discussed by Prime Minister of Thailand Settha Thaweesin together with colleagues from Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos, Bloomberg reports.
The implementation of a joint visa program would allow the countries of the region to increase the flow of tourists, giving them the opportunity to freely move between the resorts of six countries. In particular, Thailand will increase tourism revenues.
However, differences in the immigration laws of the six countries may delay the implementation of this initiative.
The Schengen area is an area of 29 European states that have acceded to the Schengen legislation of the European Union and abolished border controls among themselves.
