Turkmenistan and the EU compared approaches in trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation
On Tuesday, March 19, as part of the visit of the Turkmen delegation to Brussels, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov held a number of meetings with representatives of EU institutions.
In particular, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan met with the Special Representative of the European Union for Human Rights Olof Skoog. The parties noted the importance of such bilateral cooperation mechanisms as the joint Turkmenistan-EU Committee and the Human Rights Dialogue, held alternately in Turkmenistan and Belgium.
The minister provided information on the activities and tasks of the Interdepartmental Commission to ensure the implementation of Turkmenistan’s international obligations in the field of human rights and international humanitarian law, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.
On this day, Rashid Meredov also met with Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Economic Affairs, European Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis, Vice-President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas, EU Commissioner for International Cooperation Jutta Urpilainen, and Chairman of the European Parliament delegations for Central Asian countries and Mongolia Tomas Zdekhovsky.
During the meetings, there were discussed issues of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union in such areas as economics, trade and humanitarian interaction.
The parties discussed current projects implemented in Turkmenistan with the support of the EU, and interaction within the framework of various programs - from education and science to initiatives in the field of green economy and climate.
