On Tuesday, Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell in Brussels.

“The parties discussed a wide range of issues related to bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Particular attention was paid to strengthening ties between the EU and Central Asia. At the same time, the areas of energy, transport, digitalization, education and climate were highlighted among the promising areas,” the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan said in a statement.

The importance of existing mechanisms of bilateral cooperation, such as the EU- Turkmenistan Joint Committee, the Human Rights Dialogue and the inter- parliamentary dialogue was emphasized.

A thorough exchange of views took place on aspects of regional security. In this direction, Rashid Meredov emphasized the efforts and initiatives of the government of Turkmenistan, undertaken based on the principles of permanent neutrality status.

The diplomats also touched upon the issues of organizing the next meeting of the heads of foreign affairs agencies of the EU-Central Asia format, which will be held in Turkmenistan this year.
