A series of events to promote energy efficiency technologies was held in Mary

As part of the joint project of UNDP and the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan “Sustainable Cities: Integrated Development of Green Cities in Ashgabat and Avaza”, a series of events to improve energy efficiency were held from March 13 to 20 in the city of Mary. These include a training seminar on innovative energy efficiency technologies in the electricity industry and an international conference on the topic “Prospects for the introduction of “green” innovative technologies for energy efficiency in the electricity industry of Turkmenistan.” The events were organized in cooperation with the Sustainable Energy Connections in Central Asia (SECCA) project, funded by the European Union.

The event was attended by specialists from the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan, teachers and students of the State Energy Institute, specialists from the Research and Production Center “Renewable Energy Sources” at this university, as well as experts and international consultants from the UNDP project on sustainable cities in Turkmenistan and SECCA.

The purpose of the training seminar was to study international experience in introducing innovative technologies in the electric power industry, as well as methods for conducting energy surveys. During the presentations, work carried out jointly with experts from the Ministry of Energy, GEIT and the UNDP project on the development of regulatory legal acts in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources was presented. A lecture was also given to the faculty and students of the Energy Institute in the city of Mary as part of the seminar.

On March 18, an international conference on energy efficiency was held. Participants got acquainted with the work of UNDP and EU projects in this area, as well as the prospects for introducing “green” technologies in the country. UNDP representatives also discussed working with youth to promote clean energy.

The project “Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated Development of Green Cities in Ashgabat and Avaza”, funded by the Global Environment Foundation and UNDP, aims to promote the development of sustainable cities and reduce the negative impacts of urbanization.

Practical measures implemented and planned by the UNDP project in Turkmenistan are aimed at developing the use of renewable energy and introducing innovative energy efficiency technologies into the electricity industry. These steps help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help the country meet its international obligations under the Paris Climate Agreement.
