Turkmenistan and the EU are exploring ways to a new economic partnership: round table in Brussels


With the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, Director General of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mammethan Chakiyev, a round table with the European business community was organized in Brussels on Monday, March 18.
The event on the theme "Turkmenistan and the EU: towards a new economic partnership" brought together more than 120 representatives of various countries in a hybrid format. The participants discussed the possibilities of cooperation in key areas such as energy, investment and trade, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.

Among the participants are heads and representatives of international organizations, including UN agencies, the EU, the OECD, political, diplomatic and financial institutions, the media, commercial companies, trade and economic associations and agencies, research centers and other organizations.
Among the speakers were the heads of the European Commission's Directorate General for International Partnerships, the European Institute for Asian Studies, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, as well as such leading European companies as Sarens Group, Cargolux, Philips, Royal IHC, etc.
In his speech, the Head of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan stressed the great potential for expanding the economic partnership between Turkmenistan and the EU.

In addition to general discussions, Rashid Meredov and Mammethan Chakiyev held a number of separate meetings. In particular, the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan met with the heads of the OECD, the Walloon Agency for Export and Investment, vice presidents of Philips and Picanol companies.
The General Director of the Transport and Communications Department discussed issues of cooperation with the heads of the Antwerp seaport and the companies "Cargolux", "Exagon Global BV", "Royal IHC", "DEME".
Among other things, they discussed the supply of equipment for various sectors of Turkmenistan, potential projects, digitalization, and the possibility of opening service centers of European companies in Turkmenistan. Willingness to discuss recommendations on improving the legal environment for business and investment was expressed.
