Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko took command of the International Space Station (ISS). This was reported by the Russian state corporation Roscosmos.

Oleg Kononeko took the command of the International Space Station from ESA astronaut Andreas Mogensen.

“The Dane handed the Russian a symbolic key to the station, after which the crew traditionally rang the ship’s bell. Oleg Kononenko will command the ISS until the end of September 2024,” Roscosmos said in a statement.

Oleg Kononenko is the world record holder for the total duration of space flights. The world record was set on February 4th. The total time Oleg Kononenko spent in space reached 878 days, 11 hours, 29 minutes and 49 seconds. During the current flight, he will improve the world record for the total stay in outer space to 1110 days.
