Turkmen national attire in the world cinema: “The Healer: Avicenna’s Disciple”

Many of us feel a pride having seen Turkmen carpets, Akhal-Teke horses, and Turkmen Alabai in shots of foreign films. And today I will tell you about the Turkmen national costumes’ application in the adventure feature film “The Healer: Avicenna’s Disciple’”, filmed by German Director Philipp Stelzl.
Events of the movie (English – The Physician, German – Der Medicus), which was released worldwide in 2014 and collected US $54 million, are developing in England and the East in the 11th century.
After the mother of 11-year-old Robert Cole dies of appendicitis, he heads for travelling with a nomadic healer, Barber who teaches him his craft. But soon it’s not enough for Robert, as he realizes that such skills are powerless against many diseases. From the Jewish doctors who helped Barber overcome his blindness, he learns that, the greatest healer in the world – Abu Ali al-Husayn ibn Sina, better known as Avicenna lives far on the East, in Persia. Rob sets out across France, the Mediterranean, and Egypt to reach his destination and so reaches Isfahan.
From Egypt to Persia, Rob goes with a caravan, where he meets a pretty girl, Rebecca, who was brilliantly performed by the British actress Emma Rigby, who wears traditional Turkmen women’s clothing in some episodes.
I present to readers a few frames from this film, which depict Turkmen attire with classic national patterns and embroidery.
