Turkmenistan and Afghanistan have checked their watches on major joint projects

High-ranking delegations of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan held talks in Ashgabat to promote major joint projects. The heads of the departments of the two countries involved in their implementation met on the sidelines of the Turkmen-Afghan business forum on Monday, March 4.

The substantive conversation covered the entire spectrum of existing cooperation, primarily in such main areas as the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline and TAP power transmission lines, railways.

The state of work on these and other tracks was analyzed, as well as potential growth points for mutual trade and regional trade, transport, logistics and energy ties, the development of infrastructure networks in order to connect them to international corridors and hubs were identified.

It is extremely important for Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and other Central Asian countries to take their rightful place in the emerging foreign economic chains. Therefore, the target of regional policy is becoming transport and logistics connectivity, which can make the greatest contribution to economic dynamics, export diversification, give an early and significant return on investment and increase the competitiveness of countries.

In particular, the negotiations considered a project to build a large elevator near the crossing point on the Turkmen-Afghan border, with an estimated capacity of 100,000 tons for temporary storage. From here, the grain will be transported to Afghanistan. As the members of the Afghan delegation stressed at the talks, Turkmenistan is Afghanistan's most reliable partner. He has always helped and helps his neighbor in difficult times, and this finds a sincere grateful response.

A separate topic for negotiations in a narrow profile was the oil and gas partnership, which is strategic for the economic relations between the two countries, both in terms of cross–border cooperation and on a regional scale. Here, the issues of implementing the TAPI project as a key one in the development of the energy landscape of South Asia were discussed in more detail.
