The OSCE Secretary General will visit Turkmenistan on March 4-6

OSCE Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid will visit Turkmenistan from March 4-6 to meet with the Ministers of the Environment of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, as well as with the Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan.
In Ashgabat, the OSCE Secretary General will take part in a strategic discussion with senior officials organized by the Government of Turkmenistan, according to the organization's website.
It was noted that this discussion will focus on the effects of climate change on security and stability in Central Asia, as well as on the complex problems faced by the region in such areas as transboundary water management, energy security, sustainable communications, disaster risk reduction and others.
The meeting is part of an ongoing effort following the OSCE High-level Conference on Climate Change, organized last July, at which participating States discussed the potential impacts of climate change on security and stability in the OSCE region.
The Ashgabat meeting will provide a forum for Central Asian participating States to outline key opportunities for developing regional cooperation to address these challenges and discuss how the OSCE can support these efforts.
It is also expected that President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov will receive the OSCE Secretary General.
Helga Maria will also chair the annual meeting of heads of OSCE missions in all Central Asian countries.
