Training for specialists in marine planning was held in Ashgabat

A 5-day training course "Marine Spatial Planning" organized by the International Ocean Institute (IOI) jointly with the State Enterprise for the Caspian Sea under the President of Turkmenistan was held in the state capital. The seminar was attended by representatives of ministries and departments of our country working in the fields of environmental protection, fisheries, tourism, transport, the development of marine resources, as well as structures involved in interagency coordination in the Caspian Sea. The interactive course "Marine spatial planning" within the framework of the Education Program for Sustainable Development and Management of the Caspian Sea was built on the principles of the ecosystem approach and included practical exercises. The regional project covers Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan. The workshop aimed to increase competence and improve practical skills in marine spatial planning, related to understanding the role of ecosystems. Particular emphasis was placed on issues of coordination of interests of various departments when working in coastal zones and the open sea.
