The operator of the railway network in Uzbekistan, "Uzbekiston Temir Yollari", has begun reconstruction of the Hairatan - Mazar-i-Sharif railway in Afghanistan, the press service of the state company reports.

Uzbekistan sent 120 workers to complete the first stage of reconstruction. The report says that the main task is to resume freight traffic to Naibabad station as soon as possible. For these purposes, complex work will be carried out in parallel in park “B” of Hairatan station and on a section of the line of 57 km.

An agreement with the Afghan Railways Authority to reconstruct the railway line was reached in November 2023.

The railway line was built in 2010 and is operated by Sogdiana Trans, a subsidiary of Uzbekistan Temir Yollari.
