Samsung Electronics Co. is set to unveil its new Galaxy Ring biometric health tracker at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, aiming to lead a new era of artificial intelligence-powered wearables with enhanced convenience and more accurate health measurement, the South Korean company said on Sunday.

Samsung's first Galaxy Ring is comfortable to wear in everyday life, even while sleeping, and can measure detailed data as its inner surface wraps around your finger. According to Samsung, the new device will be released in the second half of this year.

The ring will be available in black, gold and silver, in nine sizes. Samsung will announce design, color and size information for the first time at the global mobile technology show on February 26th. The device was previewed at the Galaxy Unpacked event in San Jose, California last month.

At MWC, visitors will not be allowed to test the ring as the device will be displayed in a clear case for security reasons.

With Galaxy Ring, Samsung will challenge Apple Inc. on another front as the iPhone maker is likely to launch its first smart ring later this year, industry insiders say. According to sources, Apple's product can detect distance and movement between objects, as well as recognize skin.

Samsung will also introduce new data-driven healthcare software such as My Vitality Score and Booster Card.

My Vitality Score provides personalized health recommendations based on a user's sleep, activity, heart rate and heart rate variability. The Booster Card helps users

improve their health by tracking pre-defined goals and providing useful information.

The electronics giant will showcase SmartThings, software for seamless connections between devices. The software controls your home's lighting for better sleep and alerts you when you need to take your medication. It also allows users to measure heart rate and calories burned in real time while the user watches a fitness video on a connected TV.

The company will also showcase the artificial intelligence features of its news smartphone Galaxy S24, such as real-time information search, summarizing long documents and on-phone translation. Visitors will be able to try out the AI features of the Galaxy S23 and S23 FE, which will be updated next month.
