Turkmen-Iranian relations in the field of maritime transport are developing


On February 12, 2023, the Iranian Maritime Economy Forum was held in Tehran, the Islamic Republic of Iran, which was attended by representatives of the «Turkmendenizderyayollary» Agency at the invitation of the Iranian side.

The forum was attended by representatives of transport companies, government agencies and business groups of Iran. During the event, issues related to the development of international trade and transport links between the countries of the region within the North-South and West-East corridors were considered. In particular, three routes were identified:
Europe – Russia – Azerbaijan – Iran – India;
Russia – Kazakhstan – Turkmenistan – Iran – India;
Russia – Iran–India transport corridors.
Also, within the framework of the forum, meetings were held with representatives of the Port and Maritime Organization of Iran, where the seaport system of Turkmenistan, the national merchant fleet and shipbuilding capabilities were widely represented. In order to further expand cooperation, ideas were put forward about the capacities and possibilities of providing benefits to other foreign companies in the northern ports of Iran (Enzeli, Amirabad, Nushehir and others).
Separate round-table talks were held with the chief advisor of the company Behine Tarabar Azhur M.B. Akdam. The representative of the company introduced the services of container transportation on the Caspian Sea and cargo transportation on the Amirabad-Baku route. In this regard, he expressed a desire to establish close cooperation in the future.
The Turkmen delegation will also visit the port of Amirabad.
