IV World Nomad Games postponed to next year amid coronavirus outbreak

The Fourth World Nomad Games, an international competition dedicated to ethnic sports, have been postponed to 2021 due to the novel coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19). It was reported by the World Ethnosport Confederation (WEC), the Turkish News Agency Anadolu reports. The competition was scheduled to be held in the city of Konya, Turkey, but the Games were postponed on the recommendation of the head of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. “The World Nomad Games are of particular importance for the protection of historical values and heritage. The pandemic has demonstrated to us the importance of the unity of mankind, which is also of great importance,” Bilal Erdogan, head of the World Ethnic Sports Confederation, said. According to him, the WEC puts human health above all, due to which certain changes have been put to the program of the event. “The fourth edition of games on the recommendation of Erdoğan was scheduled to be organized in Turkey. After consultations with the Turkic Council, Turkey’s Ministry of Youth and Sports of Turkey, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the WEC, the decision was made to move the games to 2021,” Erdogan stated.
